I'm so glad we had this time, together...

Quote of the Week:

I am extremely grateful, and thankful, to have been able to serve as the principal of Hilsman Middle School the last five years. Our faculty is passionate, dedicated, and fiercely committed to serving our students and to shaping them into incredibly successful young adults. Our students are my heart, and the memories we have experienced together will stay with me forever. I am proud to be a Panther!

Dr. B.

Can We Talk?/Title I Planning Meeting - May 16th!

Our final Can We Talk? will be schoolwide and will be held on Monday, May 16th at 6:00 p.m. This is also serve as our Title I planning meeting for next year, since many of the needs that were brought up across the school can be addressed through our Title I program. We will meet in room 314. We hope to see you here!

8th Grade Uniform Collection This Week

As is our tradition, 8th graders may be out of uniform this week if they bring in gently used, clean uniforms (up to three sets).

6th and 7th graders may dress up or be in uniform on the day of their respective Honors Assemblies.

All students may be out of uniform on Friday (early release at 12:30 p.m.) as long as they comply with our CCSD standards for dress. A good rule of thumb to follow is if you wonder whether or not it is appropriate to wear, it probably isn't. :-)

National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week - Thank a Teacher!

Quote of the Week:

Monday is an A day.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week

This week, May 2-6, 2016, is National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. Hilsman has an amazing faculty. Please encourage your student to let his/her teachers know how much they are appreciated this week!

Remembering Kentavious Rowell

Many of you have asked about contributing to a memorial in memory of Kentavious Rowell, the 7th grade student we lost one month ago this week. While there is no memorial established of which we are aware, Team Kani is collecting funds to assist the family in purchasing a grave marker, and to provide a wristband for each of his teammates to remember him by.

Sunday, May 8th, is Mother's Day, and will be Ms. Rowell's first Mother's day without her son. Team Kani would like to collect at least $500 by Wednesday of this week so that the Mortuary could go ahead and place the order for a grave marker. If you would like to contribute - please do so by Wednesday of this week by giving your contribution to Coach Page at Hilsman. If you are donating by check, please make it payable to Goolsby Mortuary. Thank you for helping to meet a need for this family.

Week Two Milestones!

Quote of the Week:

Monday is a B day.

Milestones Week Two!

Last week's testing went as well as possible considering the issues we experienced at the beginning of each session. We are hopeful now that elementary schools are finished that we will have better connectivity. Rest assured that any issues we are having are not unique to Hilsman; they are being experienced across the district and state. We are reporting all issues to the state department of education.

Please make every effort to have your child to school on time during testing. Encourage them to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night, and to eat breakfast either at home or at school each day.

Congrats to the Step Team, Soccer Team, and State SS Fair Participants!

Over the past week, Hilsman students have realized many accomplishments! First, our awesome step team WON the annual step show competition for the second straight year, winning both the judges' and the people's choice awards. Next came our boys and girls soccer teams, who both competed for the City Championship! We narrowly lost both games, but our team played with the heart and passion that we know made us all Panther Proud! Wrapping up the week we had five projects represented at the State SS Fair. I will try to publish full results for all five projects next week. Congratulations to all of our Panthers for continuing to exhibit excellence in all we do!
