It's Benchmark Time...

Quote of the Week: If you don't design your own life plan, chances are you'll fall into someone else's plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much. - Jim Rohn

It is hard to believe that in just eight short days our first nine weeks will come to a close.  The end of the nine weeks signals both benchmark testing, and a return to our original schedule.  Benchmark testing will occur October 4-12, 2012. Here are the subjects that will be tested each day:

October 4th - ELA
October 5th - Math
October 9th - Make ups
October 10th - Science
October 11-Social Studies
October 12 - Make ups

Testing will occur from 8:30-9:55 each day.  Please make sure your student is well rested and either eats breakfast at home or at school.

On October 15th, we will return to our original schedule. The day will begin with first period and end with seventh period.  We will follow that schedule until November 16th. When we return from Thanksgiving break we will "flip" again!

This past week, Dr. Ezekiel and I had the opportunity to teach a social studies class. We had a great time interacting with our students and helping them learn more about different economies.

Students had to agree or disagree with the statements on the Smartboard using the "thumbs up or thumbs down" symbol in this activating strategy.

Our announcements are now a daily Google Presentation, which can be viewed by clicking here.
Additionally, we are also producing a weekly news show that students watch on Mondays.  The news show is posted to our Hilsman Youtube channel and can be viewed by clicking here. To limit questionable thumbnails when using YouTube, scroll to the bottom of the page when accessing YouTube, open the "Safe Mode" link, and simply click "on."

Perfect Attendance

This week students who have had perfect attendance for August and/or September will be recognized.  These students will be rewarded by being able to be out of uniform one day this week! 6th graders will have their uniform free day on Wednesday, 7th graders on Thursday, and 8th graders on Friday. Students must wear the sticker they are provided the day prior to the uniform free day in order to be out of uniform, and they must still comply with the CCSD dress code policy, found here.
