Parent Conference Week - Early Release

Quote of the Week: "Education is successful when home, school and the entire learning community partner together to benefit students." - Leadership and Learning Center

Parent Conferences, Book Fairs, and Open Mic Night - Oh My!

This is another busy week for the Panther community. The spring Book Fair runs all week in the media center.  Students will have an opportunity to visit the book fair with their ELA class, and parents can visit the book fair during parent conferences on Wednesday-Friday. Book Fairs are a great way to support the needs of the school library, as well as begin shopping for birthdays and holidays. Feel free to stop by the media center this week and check it out!

Parent Conferences are scheduled to take place on Wednesday - Friday this week.  Wednesday is the late conference night for Eastside parents. If you haven't received a confirmed conference time from your child's homeroom teacher, please call or email them to ensure you have a time to meet this week.   It is our expectation that teachers hold conferences with 100% of our families.  This is an important way for us to communicate to you about your child's educational progress.  Report cards will be given out at parent conferences.

Remember to take the school improvement parent survey located at this link.  The survey has been shortened to 25 questions this year and should take just a few minutes to complete.  You may complete it now or when you come in for your child's conference. It is very important for us to have your input, as we use this information in our school improvement planning process each year. Thank you in advance.

Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. we will hold our 2nd annual Open Mic Poetry Cafe in the Hilsman cafeteria.  Students, teachers, and family members are encouraged to come and share a poem, favorite reading, song, or other talent with the Hilsman family.  Refreshments will be served.  This is a "come and go" event, so you can stop by for a few minutes, or a couple of hours! We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Congratulations to the Hilsman Middle School MathCounts team.  Coached by Shareef Bacchus, the team placed 2nd in state competition this past Monday. For the past fifteen years, Hilsman has placed in the top five at state.  Way to go, team!

Art Show

If you haven't been to see the CCSD art exhibit at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, you can still go this week. The show runs through March 30th. Here is a picture of the Hilsman exhibit. We have some very talented artists!

Motivational Assembly

Tavarres King, former wide receiver with the UGA Bulldogs and a May 2012 graduate of the University of Georgia, spent some time with the Hilsman students on Friday afternoon.  What a kind and humble young man!  He spent a few minutes encouraging students to set goals for themselves, do well in school, and graduate and go to college.  He also took the time to answer questions from the students. We were very appreciative of the time he took from his schedule to meet with our students! Mr. King will be entering the April NFL draft and we wish him well.
