Post Spring Break Issue - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Quote of the Week: "May your troubles be less, your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door." - An Irish blessing

Back to Life, Back to Reality

Well, spring break was nice while it lasted. Now we have to turn our minds back to completing the last two months of school.  I know we Panthers will finish strong!

We have more to celebrate this week, as our Helen Ruffing Reading Bowl team won the state championship for the second year in a row. It's great to be a Panther!

State Champs for the second year!

In other news, our 7th and 8th grade bands performed extremely well at their Large Group Performance Evaluations right before spring break.  In fact, the 8th grade band received ALL Superior ratings from the judges! Mrs. Camp, the band director, reports that is a first for any of her bands in all her years of teaching.  We are so proud of them!

Mayor Denson and Dr. Lanoue came to HIlsman the week before spring break to proclaim March 3-9 as Energy Education Week.  Below are pictures from that assembly:

Good Luck to MathCounts as they compete at the state competition March 18th!

Hilsman Middle now has a Twitter account.  This is one more way you can stay connected to Hilsman, keep up to date on all Hilsman news, and receive links to information related to your child's education.  Follow us on twitter @HilsmanPanthers.

Motivational Assembly

This Friday, our students will have the opportunity to hear a motivational talk by a recent UGA football player who will be entering this year's NFL draft.  This is an exciting opportunity for our students, and the assembly will be videotaped by the NFL for use in a segment about this young man. If your student doesn't have a media release on file and you would like to make sure they do prior to Friday, please contact Ms. Torres in the front office. Students who do not have a release on file will still be able to participate in the assembly, but not the videotaping.

Parent Conferences March 27th-29th

Hilsman will hold parent conferences next week, March 27-29th. Wednesday, March 27th is the late conference day for the Eastside.  Please ask your child for the appointment letter if you have not already received it from them or been contacted by your child's homeroom teacher for an appointment time.  It is our expectation that teachers hold conferences with 100% of our families.  This is an important way for us to communicate to you about your child's educational progress.  Report cards will be given out at parent conferences.

We also need all parents to take the school improvement parent survey located at this link.  The survey has been shortened to 25 questions this year and should take just a few minutes to complete.  You may complete it now or when you come in for your child's conference. It is very important for us to have your input, as we use this information in our school improvement planning process each year. Thank you in advance.

Before spring break, our boys played CMS and tied 1-1. Our next match is home this Thursday vs. BHL. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.

Remember to ask your child to see their Panther card and sign it.  Students who bring back a signature can be entered into our weekly drawing!
