PTO/Open House/Curriculum Night

Quote: "Associate yourself with people of good quality for it is better to be alone than in bad company." - Booker T. Washington

Another great week to be a Hilsman Panther is in the books! We held our Title I Parent Meeting on Thursday evening. To view the presentation from that meeting, click here. The upcoming week is a busy one for Panthers. Our PTO/Open House/Curriculum Night will be taking place on Tuesday, August 20th. We will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the gym with our first PTO meeting of the year and then move to homeroom classes from there shortly after 6:00 p.m. We encourage all families to attend to rotate through their child's schedule, learn about our Title I program, and hear about the Common Core curriculum. On Wednesday, a cross-section of our teachers will be trained in using the Scholastic Reading Inventory. This is a tool that will give us information to inform our strategies for helping students become better readers. Speaking of reading, we are encouraging all our students to "Get Caught Reading" by always having a book with them. We will be acknowledging students throughout the year to promote reading among our student body.

PTO News

Our first PTO meeting of the year will be August 20th at 5:30 p.m., immediately preceding Curriculum Night/Open House. Please join us for this very important meeting to find out ways you can be involved with your student's education here at Hilsman this year.

School Council

This year we have three openings on our School Council. Information is in the front office if you are interested in nominating yourself or someone else. There are two, two year terms, and we also need to fill the unexpired term of Rico Mack whose child is now in high school. At least one of the positions needs to be filled by a parent who is also a business person in the community. We will take nominations through August 22nd. Voting will take place August 26 - 30, 2013 by ballot. Please consider serving Hilsman in this way.

Athletics

Our softball team won a hard fought game against an excellent Malcolm Bridge Middle team, 21-20! Our next game will be Tuesday, August 20th at 5:00 p.m. vs. Athens Christian.  The game will be played at Cedar Shoals Softball Field. Come out and support the Panthers!
