The Countdown Begins!

Quote of the Week:  "Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them."  - James Baldwin

Hilsman is Happy!

Yes, Hilsman IS Still Happy -

As of this writing, our video has almost 55,000 views on YouTube, over 79,000 views on the MyFoxAtlanta site, and an undetermined number on Braydon Anderson's website. We also discovered that each IP address only counts as one view. Many people have watched the video numerous times, but it only counts as one. Also, Hilsman is Happy has been seen in over 99 countries. This is so exciting! Although the official site counts don't show it, we are pretty sure with all the factors taken into account that our students at least reached their 500,000 view goal; therefore, each grade level will be having a one hour sunshine break sometime this week!

Hilsman World's Fair

Hilsman's World Fair has been moved to May 2nd during 5th, 6th, and 7th periods. Parents are welcome to attend, and even share a booth! Students will have a passport they will get stamped or signed at each booth. Here is the link for students to sign up to share. Contact Cyndi Clark if you have questions.

Immunization Changes for Next Year

At Parent Conferences you should have received information on immunization changes for the coming year.

Effective July 1, 2014, all children born on or after January 1, 2002 who are entering 7th grade, and new entrants* to Georgia schools in grades 8- 12 will be required to have Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis) and meningococcal conjugate vaccines before entering school for the 2014-2015 school year. Visit the Clarke County Health Department or your private physician to get these vaccines NOW.

* “New entrants” means anyone that is entering Georgia schools for the first time or is returning to a Georgia school after being gone for more than 12 months or one school year. For more information, call the Clarke County Health Department at 706-389-6921 or visit

Camp Hilsman for 8th Grade

From April 28th until May 13th, 8th grade students will participate in Camp Hilsman, a "transition camp" to ensure with one last effort that our 8th graders are prepared for the rigors of high school. We have taken feedback from the 9th Grade Academy teachers at Cedar Shoals regarding the skills we need to ensure our students have, and we have developed a program to meet those needs. This is the third year of Camp Hilsman, and each year it gets better!

Our goals for Camp Hilsman are as follows:

  • Ensure that our students have a solid foundation in algebra and geometry,
  • Continue to strengthen writing skills,
  • Preview Biology and American Government standards,
  • Remediate any standards on which students did poorly throughout this school year.
Students will each have schedules built to meet their specific needs. We will use a flexible scheduling approach and each student will get a copy of the rotation they will follow for the duration of Camp Hilsman. If you have any questions, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
