Fall Break is Almost Here!

It is time to nominate a deserving faculty member for Teacher of the month, and staff member of the month.  Please use the links below to nominate someone. Nominations will close on October 29th.

Title I Survey - Please take it this week!

We need ALL parents to take our Title I Parent Survey. It will take less than ten minutes, and will provide us with valuable information as we plan for the future of our school programs. Access the link to the survey here:


Please help us out with this. we need at least 20% of our parents to take the survey. All three of the other middle schools have already surpassed their goal, so let's make sure that Hilsman has at least as many respondents!


Red Ribbon Week   October 24-30

Red Ribbon Week will begin this Friday. We hope all students will join in the fun and participate as we band together and heighten awareness of the importance of being drug free.

October 24th           "I'm a Jeanious for Being Drug Free"  Wear Jeans with a spirit shirt
October 27th           "Sock It To Drugs" - Wear crazy or mismatched socks
October 28th           "Stomp Out Drugs" - wear mismatched shoes
October 29th          "Wear ORANGE Day" - Unity against drugs and bullying
October 30th           "Team Up Against Drugs"  Wear a team jersey or spirit shirt

On the 30th, students will also have the opportunity to wear a hat or paint their face in support of UNICEF for a $1 donation. For a $2 donation, they can do both!

Hilsman Pumpkin Patch

Please support our Special Education program buy purchasing a pumpkin from the Hilsman Pumpkin Patch! Pumpkins are $5 each. All proceeds will go to support our Low Incidence Classrooms to take field trips out in the community to practice the skills they are learning. See the full flyer here.



PTO News 

The first Eastside Golf Tournament was great fun! We had 20 golfers, and the proceeds will be split among the Eastside secondary school PTOs. Next year's promises to be even better!

Some of the golfers that participated on Saturday.

Volunteers are the backbone of any successful fundraiser!

Fall Conference Week - Early Release

Parent Conferences - Early Release

Parent conferences will be held October 15-17th. Students will be released at 1:30 each day. Our late night for conferences will be Thursday, October 16th. Teachers began sending scheduling information home this past week. Please call the school if you have not been contacted to schedule a conference.  

For those of you new to middle school conferences, the homeroom teacher typically holds the conference with input from the entire team. There will be important information given about advanced content criteria as well as promotion/retention. Also, while you are at the school for parent conferences, please go ahead and take a few minutes to complete the Title I Parent Survey.

You will also be able to view the orientation for devices and sign an Acceptable Use Agreement if you have not done so already, so that your child can take their device home if you wish.

PTO News - Yankee Candle Fundraiser

PTO's Yankee Candle fundraiser ended this week. Monday will be your last chance to turn in the fundraiser form. 

PTO will be providing dinner for the staff on our late conference night. Please contact Janet Frick if you are willing to assist.



First Quarter Incentive

On Thursday we held our first quarter incentive, Sunshine and Pictures with Pax. Students who had zero office referrals and completed all their work for the quarter spent the afternoon connections period outside on the field. Photos courtesy of Michelle Hayes.

PTO News - Yankee Candle Fundraiser

PTO's Yankee Candle fundraiser began Monday, September 22nd and runs until October 7th. This is a great way to help raise funds to support educational field trips, classroom activities and teacher appreciation events throughout the year. Every child who sells at least one candle will be entered into a nationwide drawing for a trip to Orlando for a family of 4. Your child can set up an online store to receive orders as well, so that out of town family and friends can participate. Please support this fundraiser!
