Benchmarks Continue This Week!

Quote: "When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude." - G. K. Chesterton

Monday is a B day.

We have 18 staff members being nominated for Foundation for Excellence Awards! In my four years at Hilsman, this is the highest number of nominations we have had. Our teachers are committed to providing meaningful and relevant learning experiences for our students, and these nominations are just one way of recognizing the fabulous work they do each day.

Benchmarks Begin This Week

Benchmarks will continue this week. Make ups will take place when we return from Spring break. All students who miss one or more sections of the benchmarks will have an opportunity to make up each section they miss.

Our benchmarks are given in two parts. Part one is selected response and is conducted online. Part two is constructed response, and is given paper/pencil. The benchmarks allow us the opportunity to assess how well our students are mastering the standards without waiting until the end of the year for a high stakes test. By doing so, we can adjust our teaching to ensure that we are delivering instruction that meets our students' needs. Below is the schedule for this week. Please help us by ensuring that your child brings their device to school each day fully charged.

Monday, 3/2 Science part 2

Tuesday, 3/3 Math part 1

Wednesday, 3/4 Math part 2

Thursday, 3/5 Social Studies part 1

Friday, 3/6 Social Studies part 2

This week on Wednesday and Thursday, the 7th and 8th grade bands will attend Large Group Performance Evaluation. They will take their benchmarks upon their return to school

On Friday, 7th and 8th grade band members will leave for their Spring Band Trip. We wish them safe travels!

Georgia School Parents' Survey

It’s time once again to take the Georgia School Parents’ Survey, as part of each school’s College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) scores. The deadline has been extended until March 27th.

This survey is critical in the state's assessment in assigning a School Climate Star Rating to each school and is different than the Title I Survey you recently took. The survey will take 5-10 minutes to complete - and again is crucial in rating our schools. Please note this does not replace our annual School Improvement Survey, as that is our internal diagnostic survey.
School Climate survey results are confidential and will not be made public or posted online. I appreciate your time and consideration, as your feedback is both needed and appreciated.
The survey is located here:

Thanks in advance for your valuable participation! To those of you who have already taken it, thank you!

Students, Have You seen The Mystery Teacher?

Have you seen the picture of the Mystery Teacher yet? We are having a contest to identify teachers from their middle school pictures. Look in the morning announcement slideshow for a new picture each week. Make a guess as to who it is. It will also tell you what they ready when they were you age. Now you are ready to enter the drawing. Place your guess, a question about the book the teacher read and your first and last name on a piece of paper. Now place your entry in the yellow box in the lunch room. Play along and you could win a book. We have some great pictures to share with you. Join the fun! Hilsman Reads!
