Welcome Back from Spring Break!

Quote: "Happiness doesn't result from what we get, but from what we give." - Unknown

Monday is an A day.

Several of Hilsman's teachers and our Professors-in-Residence presented before Spring Break at the National Association for Professional Development Schools Conference. There are many great works that are developing from our partnership and we were excited to share! The CCSD/UGA Partnership also received an Excellence in Achievement Award. We are Proud to Be CCSD!

Congratulations to Audrey Hughes, who was the National Geographic Educator of the Week this week! Click here to read the article!

Christian Norton, a Social studies and Special Education teacher at Hilsman, was featured in an article this week in the Banner Herald!

Parent Conferences Next Week, March 25-27

Next week we will hold parent conferences. The spring conference is an important one, because this is the time that you will receive information about advanced content opportunities, high school class opportunities, and you will fill out a preference form for connections fine arts and language classes. If you have not been contacted by your child's homeroom teacher to schedule a conference by Wednesday (3/18) of this week, please email or call them. Most will send a letter home Monday or Tuesday to obtain your time/day preference. Please return this as soon as possible. Some teachers may choose to contact you by phone.

Book Fair - March 23-27, 2015

It is time for our Spring Book Fair! We hope every child has the opportunity to check out the book fair. It will be open during parent conferences so we hope that families will visit together!

Georgia School Parents' Survey

It’s time once again to take the Georgia School Parents’ Survey, as part of each school’s College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI) scores. The deadline has been extended until March 27th.

This survey is critical in the state's assessment in assigning a School Climate Star Rating to each school and is different than the Title I Survey you recently took. The survey will take 5-10 minutes to complete - and again is crucial in rating our schools. Please note this does not replace our annual School Improvement Survey, as that is our internal diagnostic survey.
School Climate survey results are confidential and will not be made public or posted online. I appreciate your time and consideration, as your feedback is both needed and appreciated.
The survey is located here:

Thanks in advance for your valuable participation! To those of you who have already taken it, thank you!

Energy Education Week Coming!

Energy Education Week is coming up! We are very close to our Energy Star Pledge goal of the year. We need 125 more Pledges to meet our goal.

Thank you for supporting the Trash Hunger Campaign. Over 20 local businesses are supporting the Campaign now. We have raised over $1,250 for hunger relief in this school year alone. We have exceeded our goal of $750! Please continue to support the campaign. We are making "A World of Difference!"

Coding Classes Coming to Hilsman

Coding classes begin this week!

Jim Flannery of Four Athens is offering a wonderful opportunity for our Hilsman students. The coding classes he's been teaching at CMS have gone so well that they are now expanding to the East side.

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 PM, Four Athens will offer 4 weeks of Coding Classes beginning March 17th and running through April 9th.
