With Earth Day coming up and school testing periods to soon be over, SET wants to invite everyone to participate in the 2015 National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation from the Wyland Foundation. This campaign is designed to encourage positive conservation behaviors, reward people for these efforts, and protect our water resources. Participating classrooms have the opportunity to win prizes and popsicles for the classroom and school!

What is the Challenge?
Mayor Denson asks citizens of Athens-Clarke County to take part by completing the “My Water Pledge”. I have included a link to a video of her appeal at the bottom of this email. Individuals, classrooms, and students take an online pledge to incorporate specific water-efficient behaviors into their lives. Teachers can pledge on behalf of the classroom or students can make the pledge. To access the pledge and lesson plans, please visit:

Help Athens-Clarke County Be #1!
The city with the most pledges for their population size wins. Currently, Athens-Clarke County is in 6th place. The website includes an updated list of the city rankings. Encourage your students to find the other location on a map. Currently California cities are leading. Start a discussion about the drought the West is facing and how important it is to use water wisely.

· The Athens-Clarke County Water Conservation Office will provide popsicles – frozen water! – during lunch to the school with the largest percentage of classrooms participating. Just print out or forward each email confirmation of the pledge, with “Pledge – SCHOOL NAME) in the subject. Email to

· Teachers who complete the pledge with their students are divided into regions and entered to win a $250 Target gift card for classroom supplies and another $250 gift card for their school.

· Individuals taking the pledge in the winning city are entered into a drawing for a Toyota Prius.
Thank you for helping to care for water and make Athens-Clarke County a leader in conservation.
