Acts of Kindness

Quote of the Week:

Monday is an A day.

PSP is held Monday and Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00. Only students that have turned in applications will be allowed to participate in the program. Transportation will be provided to students that are within our school zone. If your child is a car rider, remember they must be picked up no later than 6:15. We are looking forward to serving your child!

Shout Outs!

Students, parent, and community members - Is there someone at Hilsman to whom you would like to give a public "shout out" for something positive they have done? We have so many positive activities going on here at Hilsman, and we need to get the word out! If you would like to give someone a shout out, please share it with us in the form below. You may give a shout out to a student, teacher, staff member, etc. and we will share it with them. Your shout out may also make the Panther News! You may also video your shout out (15 seconds or less) and upload it to the folder linked here.

G.R.E.A.T. Program for 6th Graders

This upcoming week begins a 14 week series of lessons once a week during ELT for our 6th graders through the G.R.E.A.T. program, which stands for Gang Resistance Education And Training. From their website, "Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) is an evidence-based and effective gang and violence prevention program built around school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curricula. The Program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership for children in the years immediately before the prime ages for introduction into gangs and delinquent behavior." Our SRO, Officer Johnson, and another ACCPD officer will be teaching the program. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Georgia Parent Survey - Please take 5 Minutes!

The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet. For parents that do not have access to the Internet, we hope you will complete the survey while in the building for parent conferences. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Individual data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.

Parents may access a link to the Georgia Parent Survey under the "School Links" section of each school's webpage, or by clicking on the link below.

Open Conversation with Dr. B and Ms. T

We appreciate all the parents who came to our first "Can We Talk?" an open conversation with Dr. B and Ms. T. This is just one of the many ways that we can continue to keep open dialogue and improve our school. The response was so encouraging that we plan to hold these events once a month. Please plan to attend our next "Can We Talk?" on December 9th from 6-7:30 in the cafeteria.

Intentional Acts of Kindness Month

Three years ago we began a tradition at Hilsman of making December a month of kindness. Throughout this month, we encourage the Hilsman community to commit intentional acts of kindness toward others. Sites like Random Acts of Kindness and Kindspring have lists of ideas to help you get started. You might even want to take the 21 Day Gratitude Challenge from  At Hilsman, each grade level will have a Grinch, and the goal will be to fill the Grinch with hearts that have our acts of kindness written on them. Please join us in helping to make our community a kinder place during the month of December.
