Shout Outs!

Students, parent, and community members - Is there someone at Hilsman to whom you would like to give a public "shout out" for something positive they have done? We have so many positive activities going on here at Hilsman, and we need to get the word out! If you would like to give someone a shout out, please share it with us in the form below. You may give a shout out to a student, teacher, staff member, etc. and we will share it with them. Your shout out may also make the Panther News! You may also video your shout out (15 seconds or less) and upload it to the folder linked here.

G.R.E.A.T. Program for 6th Graders

This upcoming week begins a 14 week series of lessons once a week during ELT for our 6th graders through the G.R.E.A.T. program, which stands for Gang Resistance Education And Training. From their website, "Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) is an evidence-based and effective gang and violence prevention program built around school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curricula. The Program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership for children in the years immediately before the prime ages for introduction into gangs and delinquent behavior." Our SRO, Officer Johnson, and another ACCPD officer will be teaching the program. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Georgia Parent Survey - Please take 5 Minutes!

The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet. For parents that do not have access to the Internet, we hope you will complete the survey while in the building for parent conferences. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Individual data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.

Parents may access a link to the Georgia Parent Survey under the "School Links" section of each school's webpage, or by clicking on the link below.

Intentional Acts of Kindness Month

Three years ago we began a tradition at Hilsman of making December a month of kindness. Throughout this month, we encourage the Hilsman community to commit intentional acts of kindness toward others. Sites like Random Acts of Kindness and Kindspring have lists of ideas to help you get started. You might even want to take the 21 Day Gratitude Challenge from Kindness.org.  At Hilsman, each grade level will have a Grinch, and the goal will be to fill the Grinch with hearts that have our acts of kindness written on them. Please join us in helping to make our community a kinder place during the month of December.

Quote of the Week:

Monday is a B day.

Progress Reports and Milestones Reports

This week we will be sending home your child's Milestone Individual Student Report, along with their progress report.  If your child is not passing a class at the progress repeort period, there is still time to pull that grade up to passing. It isn't very difficult for a student to recover from one failing quarter in a class, but the likelihood of them passing for the year significantly decreases when they have failing grades for two quarters. Progress report is the time to intervene, both at school and at home. Please contact your child's teacher if you have questions.
