Ready for a Great Week at Hilsman!

Quote of the Week:

Monday is an A day.

Milestones is Here!

We are gearing up for the administration of The Georgia Milestones. The tests will be administered April 19-29th. Our teachers and students have worked diligently preparing for the tests. We are positive that our students will perform well. Please make every effort to have your child to school on time during testing. Encourage them to get at least
7-9 hours of sleep each night, and to eat breakfast either at home or at school each day.

Science & Energy Team Supporters & Members:

Earth Day is April 22
We are participating in the 2016 Earth Day Parade & Festival in downtown Athens. If you want to walk in the parade, meet us at 5:30 pm on Friday, April 22 downtown. The parade meeting site is marked on the map below.

We will have a table at the Earth Day Festival. We will distribute Energy Star information and have Energy Knockdown for little kids to play. We will try to sell some pancake breakfast tickets, too.

Fatz Pancake Breakfast & Silent Auction Fundraiser for the Atlanta Trip & DC Delegation
On Saturday, April 23 we will have our final fundraiser of the school year. It is a pancake breakfast & silent auction at Fatz Cafe. We need everyone that is available to help.

Many team members want to go to Atlanta on May 5 & 6 to the State Capitol and other sites. Our DC delegation to the NEED Youth Awards also needs support. Many of the students on the team need a successful fundraiser this next Saturday to make their trip goals a reality.

Congrats to the Step Team, Soccer Team, and State SS Fair Participants!

Over the past week, Hilsman students have realized many accomplishments! First, our awesome step team WON the annual step show competition for the second straight year, winning both the judges' and the people's choice awards. Next came our boys and girls soccer teams, who both competed for the City Championship! We narrowly lost both games, but our team played with the heart and passion that we know made us all Panther Proud! Wrapping up the week we had five projects represented at the State SS Fair. I will try to publish full results for all five projects next week. Congratulations to all of our Panthers for continuing to exhibit excellence in all we do!

Free Sports Physicals

April 23rd is the day! Free sports physicals are available for those playing sports next year. Contact Coach Roberts for more information.

Seeds of Change Grant

Hilsman Middle School is in the running to receive funding from the Seeds of Change grant to build an elevated, wheelchair-accessible garden area on our campus! Our AmeriCorp Vista, Ms. Erin Seymour, is spearheading this grant that will provide the opportunity for each and every student to experience the wonders of plant growth. It is a nationwide competition and the finalists are chosen by YOU!

Please go to, search for HilFarm, and vote to support our project. Share with friends and family as well! Voting is open until April 18th and you may vote once per day per any device you have access to. Any and all votes are appreciated!

Hilsman Jubilee and Inaugural Panther Prowl 5k

Save the date! May 14, 2016 is the date we have set for our Hilsman Jubilee celebration, honoring the 50th anniversary of the school's opening. There will be more information in the coming months regarding our plans, and we would love to have some parents and/or Hilsman alumni to help us!

We will kick off the day with the inaugural Panther Prowl 5k, which will raise funds for a variety of causes such as enrichment/service-learning opportunities for our students, and providing incentives as a part of our positive school culture plan (PBIS). The course will be a great one, winding through the beautiful Cedar Creek neighborhood, and the race will be part of the Run and See Georgia Grand Prix. You won't want to miss it!

Help fund our Hilsman Jubilee Mural by contributing to our Go Fund Me account. The mural is commemorating our school community through art. We plan to unveil the mural at our celebration May 14th!

To date we have raised $845 in online and offline donations toward our goal of $1500 to fund our mural project.
